Keiretsu is a Japanese term that describes the set of interlocking relationships among Japanese suppliers and manufacturers.

The famous venture capital firm Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers applies this concept to form a network of interlocking operating relationships between the portfolio companies in which they invest.  Their keiretsu enables strategic alliances and partnerships as well as a pooling or sharing of available resources.

John Doerr of Kleiner Perkins states, "Keiretsu are rooted in the principle that it is really hard to get an important company going and that the fastest and surest way to build an important new company is to work with partners."
